Wildlife and Primates Safari: 8-Day Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Entebbe and Transfer to Murchison Falls

Morning:

  • Arrive in Entebbe
    Welcome to Uganda! Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport, you’ll be met by your guide and transferred to Murchison Falls National Park, approximately 5-6 hours by road.

Afternoon:

  • Arrive at Murchison Falls
    Check into your lodge or camp near Murchison Falls National Park such as Paraa Safari Lodge or Murchison River Lodge.

Evening:

  • Dinner and Relaxation
    After the long drive, unwind with a delicious dinner and enjoy the peaceful surroundings of the park.

Day 2: Murchison Falls – Game Drive and Boat Safari

Morning:

  • 6:00 AM – Early Game Drive
    Embark on an early morning game drive to explore Murchison Falls National Park. The early morning hours offer the best opportunity to spot predators like lions and leopards, as well as other wildlife such as elephants, giraffes, and buffaloes.

Late Morning:

  • 10:00 AM – Murchison Falls Viewpoint
    Visit the Murchison Falls viewpoint for spectacular views of the Nile River as it cascades through a narrow gorge, creating one of the world’s most powerful waterfalls.

Afternoon:

  • 1:00 PM – Lunch at the Lodge
    Return to your lodge for a relaxed lunch, followed by leisure time.

  • 3:00 PM – Boat Safari on the Nile
    Take a relaxing boat safari along the Victoria Nile to see hippos, crocodiles, and a variety of birds such as kingfishers and African fish eagles.

Evening:

  • 6:00 PM – Return to Lodge
    Return to your lodge for dinner and relaxation.

Day 3: Transfer to Kibale Forest for Chimpanzee Trekking

Morning:

  • 7:00 AM – Breakfast and Departure to Kibale
    After breakfast, check out of your lodge and begin your journey to Kibale Forest National Park, which will take approximately 6-7 hours by road.

Afternoon:

  • 1:00 PM – Arrival and Check-in at Kibale Lodge
    Check into your lodge near Kibale, such as Kyaninga Lodge or Chimpanzee Forest Guesthouse.

Evening:

  • 4:00 PM – Optional Bigodi Wetland Walk
    If time permits, head to the nearby Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary for a guided walk. The sanctuary is home to a variety of wildlife, including monkeys, birds, and reptiles. It’s a relaxing way to start your primate adventure.

  • 6:00 PM – Dinner and Rest
    Enjoy dinner at your lodge and prepare for the chimpanzee trek the next day.


Day 4: Chimpanzee Trekking in Kibale Forest

Morning:

  • 6:00 AM – Early Breakfast
    Enjoy an early breakfast before heading to the Kanyanchu Visitor Center in Kibale Forest for your chimpanzee trekking briefing.

  • 8:00 AM – Chimpanzee Trekking
    Trek through the dense rainforest of Kibale Forest in search of wild chimpanzees. Kibale is one of the best places in the world to observe chimpanzees in their natural habitat, and the trek usually lasts 2-4 hours.

Afternoon:

  • 12:30 PM – Lunch at the Lodge
    After the trek, return to your lodge for a well-deserved lunch.

  • 2:30 PM – Afternoon Nature Walk
    In the afternoon, enjoy a peaceful nature walk through the forest or visit the Kibale Forest Research Centre to learn about the park's ongoing conservation efforts.

Evening:

  • 6:00 PM – Dinner and Relaxation
    Enjoy a delicious dinner at your lodge and unwind after an exciting day.

Day 5: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest for Gorilla Trekking

Morning:

  • 7:00 AM – Breakfast and Departure to Bwindi
    After breakfast, embark on a scenic drive to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, home to the endangered mountain gorillas. The journey will take approximately 4-5 hours.

Afternoon:

  • 1:00 PM – Arrival and Check-in at Bwindi Lodge
    Upon arrival at Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, check into your lodge, such as Buhoma Lodge or Silverback Lodge.

Evening:

  • 4:00 PM – Batwa Cultural Experience
    In the afternoon, you can participate in a cultural experience with the Batwa people, the forest's original inhabitants. Learn about their traditional lifestyle, culture, and history.

  • 6:30 PM – Dinner and Rest
    Enjoy dinner at your lodge and rest for your gorilla trekking adventure tomorrow.


Day 6: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

Morning:

  • 6:00 AM – Early Breakfast and Transfer to Trekking Point
    After breakfast, depart for the Buhoma or Nkuringo sector of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, where your gorilla trek will begin.

  • 8:00 AM – Gorilla Trekking
    Begin your gorilla trekking adventure! The trek can take anywhere from 1-6 hours, depending on where the gorillas are located. Once you find them, you will spend an unforgettable hour observing them in their natural habitat, witnessing their behaviors and interactions.

Afternoon:

  • 12:30 PM – Return to Lodge for Lunch
    After your trek, return to your lodge for lunch and relax.

  • 2:30 PM – Nature Walk or Community Visit
    In the afternoon, take a nature walk around Bwindi or visit the nearby community for a cultural exchange.

Evening:

  • 6:30 PM – Dinner and Relaxation
    Enjoy dinner and relax at your lodge, reflecting on your gorilla trekking experience.

Day 7: Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi for Relaxation

Morning:

  • 7:00 AM – Breakfast and Departure to Lake Bunyonyi
    After breakfast, check out of your lodge and drive to Lake Bunyonyi, a stunning crater lake known for its beauty. The drive takes around 2-3 hours.

Afternoon:

  • 11:00 AM – Arrival and Check-in at Lake Bunyonyi Lodge
    Check into your lakeside lodge, such as Lake Bunyonyi Overland Resort or Bunyonyi View Resort.

  • 12:30 PM – Lunch by the Lake
    Enjoy a relaxing lunch with views of the lake.

Afternoon:

  • 2:00 PM – Boat Ride on Lake Bunyonyi
    Take a boat ride on the lake, exploring the islands, including Akampene Island. It’s a perfect way to unwind and reflect on your adventure.

Evening:

  • 6:30 PM – Dinner and Relaxation
    Enjoy a peaceful dinner by the lake and relax.

Day 8: Return to Entebbe and Departure

Morning:

  • 7:00 AM – Breakfast and Departure to Entebbe
    After breakfast, drive back to Entebbe (around 7 hours).

Afternoon:

  • 1:00 PM – Arrival in Entebbe
    Arrive in Entebbe, where you’ll be transferred to the airport for your departure flight.
