Uganda Birding Adventure: 14-Day Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Entebbe & Briefing

Morning:

• Arrival in Entebbe
  Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport, you will be met by your birding guide and transferred to your hotel in Entebbe for overnight stay.

Afternoon:

• Briefing on Birding Tour
  Get a briefing on your upcoming birding adventure. You’ll also have a chance to rest and adjust to the new time zone.

Evening:

• Leisure time
  If time allows, take a stroll around Entebbe Botanical Gardens, which is a great introduction to Uganda’s birdlife, home to species like Red-chested Sunbird and Nile Valley Sunbird.

Day 2: Birding in Entebbe & Transfer to Mabamba Wetlands

Morning:

• Birdwatching at Entebbe Botanical Gardens
  Start your birding tour in Entebbe at the Entebbe Botanical Gardens, known for its diverse bird species such as African Jacanas, Purple Herons, and Red-chested Sunbirds.

• Transfer to Mabamba Wetlands
  After lunch, head to Mabamba Wetlands on the shores of Lake Victoria. This location is famous for the rare Shoebill Stork.

Afternoon:

• Shoebill Stork Boat Safari
  Explore the wetlands by boat, looking for the elusive Shoebill Stork, as well as other waterbirds like Saddle-billed Stork, African Marsh Harrier, and Papyrus Gonolek.

Evening:

• Return to Entebbe for Overnight
  Return to your hotel in Entebbe for dinner and overnight rest.

Day 3: Transfer to Kibale National Park

Morning:

• Depart for Kibale National Park
  After breakfast, begin your journey to Kibale National Park, famous for its chimpanzees and birds. The drive is approximately 6-7 hours.

Afternoon:

• Arrival and Birding in Kibale
  After check-in, enjoy some light birding around your lodge. Kibale is home to birds like African Grey Parrot, Olive Long-tailed Cuckoo, and Pillied Woodpecker.

Evening:

• Dinner and Relaxation
  Enjoy dinner at your lodge and relax for the evening.

Day 4: Birding in Kibale National Park

Morning:

• Birdwatching in Kibale
  Embark on an early morning birding hike in the Kibale Forest, a biodiversity hotspot. You’ll spot forest species such as Great Blue Turaco, Grey-cheeked Mangabey, Green-breasted Pitta, and White-spotted Flufftail.

Afternoon:

• Birding in Bigodi Wetland
  Visit the Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary, a prime birding area. Look for species like Blue-headed Coucal, Yellow-billed Duck, and Western Bronze-naped Pigeon.

Evening:

• Return to Lodge for Dinner
  Return to your lodge for dinner and a rest after an exciting day of birding.

Day 5-6: Murchison Falls National Park

Morning (Day 5):

• Departure for Murchison Falls
  After breakfast, depart for Murchison Falls National Park (approximately 6 hours). On the way, spot savannah species like Yellow-billed Hornbills and Bateleur Eagles.

Afternoon:

• Game Drive and Birding
  After checking into your lodge, enjoy an afternoon game drive. Murchison Falls offers a chance to see birds like Secretary Birds, African Fish Eagles, and Black-headed Herons.

Day 6:

• Morning Boat Safari on the Nile
  Take a boat safari along the Victoria Nile, where you’ll have the chance to spot Shoebill Storks, Grey Herons, African Jacanas, and a variety of waterfowl.

• Evening Game Drive
  In the evening, enjoy another game drive to see Eagles, Vultures, and Waders.

Day 7-8: Budongo Forest & Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi

Morning (Day 7):

• Birding in Budongo Forest
  Drive to Budongo Forest, famous for its birdlife, including Pels Fishing Owl, White-naped Pigeon, and Forest Robin. Explore the forest trails and discover hidden gems.

Day 8:

• Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi
  Travel to the scenic Lake Bunyonyi (approx. 6 hours), known for birdwatching. Here you can spot Grey Crowned Cranes, Malachite Kingfishers, and Great Cormorants.

Day 9-10: Birdwatching at Lake Bunyonyi & Lake Mburo

Morning (Day 9):

• Birding Around Lake Bunyonyi
  Spend the morning exploring the lakeshore, enjoying sightings of water birds and island species.

Day 10:

• Transfer to Lake Mburo National Park
  Drive to Lake Mburo (about 4-5 hours). Enjoy birding around the lake for African Fish Eagles, Lilac-breasted Rollers, and Yellow-billed Storks.

Day 11-12: Birding in Lake Mburo National Park

Morning:

• Game Drive and Birdwatching
  Explore the park on an early morning game drive. You may see Red-headed Lovebirds, White-winged Widowbirds, and Pale Olive Greenbuls.

Afternoon:

• Boat Safari on Lake Mburo
  Take a boat ride to spot African Fish Eagles, Herons, and Great White Pelicans.

Day 13-14: Return to Entebbe & Departure

Morning (Day 13):

• Drive to Entebbe
  After breakfast, drive back to Entebbe for your final day of birding around the town or Entebbe Botanical Gardens.

Afternoon (Day 14):

• Shopping and Leisure
  Visit the local craft markets for souvenirs before heading to the airport.

• Departure
  After a fulfilling birding adventure, you’ll be transferred to Entebbe International Airport for your flight home.
