Murchison Falls National Park: 3-Day Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival and Game Drive

Morning:

  • 7:00 AM – Departure from Kampala/Entebbe
    Start your journey to Murchison Falls National Park, a 5-6 hour drive from Kampala or Entebbe. The scenic route passes through rural villages, lush landscapes, and picturesque towns, giving you a true feel of Uganda’s countryside.

  • 1:00 PM – Arrival and Check-in
    Upon arrival, check in to your accommodation. Options range from luxury lodges like Paraa Safari Lodge to budget-friendly options near the park's gates. After check-in, you can relax and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.

Afternoon:

  • 2:30 PM – Afternoon Game Drive
    After lunch, head out for your first game drive in Murchison Falls National Park. Day 2: Boat Safari and Hike to Murchison Falls

Morning:

  • 6:00 AM – Early Morning Game Drive
    Start the day with an early morning game drive to spot wildlife before the heat of the day. Mornings in Murchison are magical as animals are more active, and you may see elephants crossing the river or lions resting in the shade. The early light also offers great photo opportunities.

  • 8:00 AM – Breakfast at the Lodge
    Return to the lodge for breakfast, enjoying the serene morning views of the park.

Late Morning:

  • 10:00 AM – Boat Safari on the Nile
    After breakfast, embark on a boat safari along the Victoria Nile, heading toward the base of Murchison Falls. The boat ride is an incredible way to get up close to hippos, crocodiles, and elephants that come down to the riverbanks to drink. The boat trip also offers a fantastic opportunity for birdwatching, with species like the African fish eagle, pelicans, and kingfishers often spotted along the river.

Afternoon:

  • 1:00 PM – Lunch at the Lodge
    Return to the lodge for lunch after your boat safari. Relax and enjoy the surrounding views.

  • 3:00 PM – Hike to the Top of Murchison Falls
    In the afternoon, take a hike to the top of Murchison Falls. The trail provides breathtaking views of the falls and the Nile as it crashes through the narrow gorge. The hike offers a great opportunity to appreciate the power and beauty of the falls up close, and you'll learn more about the history of the falls and the surrounding ecosystem from your guide.

Evening:

  • 6:30 PM – Dinner and Relaxation
    Return to your lodge for dinner and relax after a day of exploration. Enjoy the peaceful atmosphere as you reflect on your experiences.

Day 3: Nature Walk, Visit to the Nile Delta, and Departure

Morning:

  • 6:00 AM – Nature Walk or Visit to the Nile Delta
    For those seeking a more relaxed experience, take a nature walk with a park guide. This walk gives you an intimate look at the park’s smaller flora and fauna, from medicinal plants to unique bird species. Alternatively, you can opt for a visit to the Nile Delta, where you can take a boat safari to explore the wetlands, home to bird species like the shoebill stork. The delta offers a serene and scenic alternative to the more traditional game drives.

  • 9:00 AM – Breakfast at the Lodge
    After the morning activity, return to the lodge for breakfast.

Late Morning:

  • 11:00 AM – Check-out and Final Game Drive
    Check out of your accommodation and take one final game drive through Murchison Falls National Park. Use this last chance to spot any wildlife you may have missed during the previous days.
